In modern Japan, Buddhist temples appears to handle most of the funerals and host graveyards and other areas associated with death; I did not notice any of those features in any of the Shinto shrines I have personally visited. This always seemed odd to me - if death is a natural part of life and the cycle of existence, how could it be a source of pollution? There must be something I am missing here.Katherine Hnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3842329036518659708.post-89266055424253482112016-07-20T02:19:02.862-07:002016-07-20T02:19:02.862-07:00So interesting, my friend told me a bit about this...So interesting, my friend told me a bit about this when he visited Japan but it's great to read more about it here! And whether the tensions between modernity/built environment and nature/green space/kami are parallel or causative... (although I suppose there are kami of roads and buildings and electric lines and nuclear plants and computing devices?). And and and. Lots of other questions. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10465101353440522982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3842329036518659708.post-37295890278838560852016-03-22T06:09:23.871-07:002016-03-22T06:09:23.871-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10465101353440522982noreply@blogger.com
